@KingBurgermon: Hope this is a bit glass-clearer. The crossover logic you speak of concerned the creators of DIGIMON XROS WARS having fun with a proposed time-travelling aspect regarding Season 3 and incoporating old characters into the fray for longtime viewers + a newer generation, which may have missed the first few seasons of Digimon Adventure/Digital Monsters, to enjoy.
Secondly, the characters being younger/older doesn't make or break the anime series as a whole; a typical Digimon series centers around the Digidestined, their Digimon, and their mission to safeguard the Human World/Digi-World/all other emcompassing realms/dimensions/what-have-you, with a few helpful guides/guardians often thrown in for good measure.
Furthermore, it is a common misconception that the third season of Xros Wars meant the end of DIGIMON. A lot of anime juggernauts are still going strong, so Digimon may simply be taking a break before emerging on the scene again to entertain their global audiences once again. Only time will tell, really.

If a show is still very much relevant, still gets picked up and televised nationally on a major network every time a newer series materiaizes, still catches the attention of foreign network execs, and still turns a major profit for its creators/producers/distributors to this day, it would almost seem nonsensical to end such a program, especially considering that DGMN is classified as a popular franchise that maintains a super-loyal fanbase.
I love it. Maybe the makers of the series are secretly . . . plotting something. *Hmm*
